I have been a practicing artist quite a few years now having gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Printmaking in 1990 from Central Saint Martins School of Art in London. I am currently studying for an MA in Fine Art at The Norwich University of the Arts (part time). I am comfortable exploring a variety of creative media. I use sketching, lino, mono printing and painting in my work. The common thread throughout my creativeness is my love of drawing. I am an avid life drawer, but am happy to use my creative line to draw most organic creatures and forms. I’m very diverse in my creativity, one day I have to draw, or create a print, or even sew something. However – there’s nothing like pulling the first proof off a printing plate to see the outcome. This results in a balance of work which is often illustrative based on wildlife and work informed by identity and how I exist in the world.
I also curate a Queer Arts Festival, QueerFest Norwich, which happens in February.
I grew up in the Peak District and have lived in London, Boston, New Zealand and now Norwich. All of these experiences feed into my creativity.
‘POSE’ art exhibition will be a central element of Queerfest Norwich 2025.
The exhibition will be held from 13 to 23 February 2023 at the Undercroft Gallery, 112-134, Market Pl, Norwich NR2 1ND
As Queer individuals navigate public and private spaces, what does it mean to ‘Pose’ in ways that assert, conceal, or transform visibility? How can posing become a means of resisting marginalisation? In a world where Queer identities often exist at the complex intersections of visibility, societal expectations, and personal validation, posing can be seen as both a form of protest and a testament to survival and resilience. Your ‘Pose’ could signify strength or fragility, fake or authenticity, celebration or survival.
